Henry Wu (BD Wong).Jurassic World: The Ride eschews the grandeur of the original (which started things off on an optimistic note by featuring the park's heavy wooden gates swinging open to reveal the idyllic Ultrasaur Lagoon as John Williams' stirring score swelled) by throwing riders right in at the deep end, literally. The biggest changes to the ride itself come at the beginning and the end - including updated footage on the monitors during the queue and on the ride itself featuring Jurassic World characters Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), and Dr. An updated tiki bar (Isla Nu-bar - get it?) and Costa Rican-inspired menu at the Jurassic Cafe should prove to be a draw for adults, while kids can enjoy digging for fossils and exploring a T-rex skull in the DinoPlay area, but the dinosaurs themselves are the real selling point at the ride's grand opening last month, even Chris Pratt got in on the action, reuniting with his old pal Blue.
Now, the magic of visiting John Hammond's ambitious dinosaur themed-park doesn't end when you step off the ride in your soaking poncho - it feels as if a prehistoric encounter could be lurking at every turn, although hopefully with less deadly results than we've come to expect from the movies. These include the iconic raptor Blue, located at a new Raptor Encounter installation a gigantic triceratops who roams the area and an adorable blinking, toothy baby raptor (watch your fingers) being "carried" by its handler. (The parks have had full-size raptor encounter photo ops since 2015, and Universal Studios Japan has apparently had a clunkier-looking triceratops for a while, but the level of detail on these new additions is pretty jaw-dropping).
